Starting from 3 Feet Platform to Online Stage GCC International College Online Meeting of Sharing Distance Teaching Experience (2)

To adapt the new trend of distance education during the coronavirus epidemic, GCC International College held the second online meeting of sharing distance teaching experience on the platform of Tencent Conference in the afternoon of April 9th. The purpose is to strengthen the experience sharing among teachers and ensure the teaching quality. The meeting hosted by Vice President Haiying Long, and all teachers of the International College participated in the meeting online.

  
  As presenters, four teachers from different teaching and research groups have shared their thoughts and teaching styles deeply by linking to their own distance teaching experiences.

Mr. Ruofan Zhang presented his teaching style on the topic of “Delivering the Key of Knowledge Treasury” from four aspects: Teaching students by their aptitudes, being a guider, flipped classroom, delivering the key of knowledge treasury. Mr. Zhang believes that teaching methods are flexible according to different course features under distance teaching. ‘Distance teaching is the best way to simulate students' motivation to study independently’ he said. He also mentioned that teachers’ job is not just teaching knowledge, but also being students' guider, to help them to open a window of new world. Finally, Mr. Zhang summarized the problems encountered in the process of implementation. He pointed out that the distance teaching should pay more attention to the communication between teacher and students and always keep the maxim of ‘Never forget why you started’ in mind.


Miss. Ruiqing Chen taking "Starting from 3 Feet Platform to Online Stage" as the theme, the course of E-Commerce as an example, shared her experience of online teaching. She said three questions should be solved before we start teaching activities, which are the approach of teaching, choice of online platforms, and the way of testing. After the preparation and application, Miss. Chen summed up the pros and cons of live and recorded approaches to online teaching respectively. She thinks compared with offline teaching, online teaching has advantages of involving various contents and active students in-class discussion. Moreover, she proposed the existing shortages of online teaching and provide a direction for audiences to think further.

  
Miss. Tianhui Chen presented the teaching experience "Course Designed by Linking with Closed-Loop Management". Miss. Chen creatively combines the distance teaching with the concept of Closed-Loop Management. She introduced the process of closed-loop teaching. In the PLAN stage, we set up a course, implementation in the DO, inspection in the CHECK and finally we analyse the course in the ACT stage to reconsider what we can improve for a new round. Under the closed-loop, students can arrange their learning schedule independently. Teachers keep tracking and supervising the progress by testing and background observation. They can build emotional bonds with students throughout the process of in-class interaction. Hence, an outstanding performance can be achieved. At last, Miss Chen made a metaphor: teaching students like growing plants, she believes that they both need to be taking care and waiting for the blooming season comes.



  
 
Mr. Jianxiu Zhang shared her ideas on the theme of "Encourage Students' Motivation of English Reading ". In her view, self-discipline and “good studying attitude" play a significant role of effective learning. By sending online questionnaires in class, teachers understand students’ thoughts and preferences, which lay a concrete foundation for the following in-class activities. To stimulate students' motivation, Miss. Chen choose to link the English reading practice with the current news, as a way of ideological and political education in patriotism. It not only improves students’ English reading skills, but also trains their ability of thinking critically and independently.

 
After all the presentations, audiences had online discussion and interaction. Mr. Xiaojia Fei stated the advantages of distance teaching which encourages students to express their opinions in the way of texting in chatbox and using a microphone. Quangang Wang, the evaluator, commented on the presentations. He mentioned the importance of education. “As educators, we should be students-oriented,” he said, this idea is following the guidance of Chen Huang who is the president of GCC. Moreover, Secretary, Junpeng Li, recognized the ideas shared by all teachers. He points out that education is not just a simple knowledge delivery, but more attention should be paid. Teachers should be a guider and develop students’ international view.
 
The meeting of sharing distance teaching experience was successfully concluded. Teachers openly expressed their opinion and advice. It is not only a summary of distance teaching experience, but also a way of communication among all teachers. The International College will continuously offer various forms of sharing distance teaching activities to enhance the teaching quality and encourage teachers to actively carry through exploration and innovation of distance teaching.
